Nordic Skiing

There is quite a variety of Nordic skiing in the Teton Valley. We groom three venues -Teton Canyon, Alta, and Teton Springs-on a regular basis with environmentally friendly 4-stroke Yamaha snowmobiles. All TVTAP venues are free to the community. Maintenance and care are supported by donations and volunteers. Grand Targhee Resort has Nordic skiing in Rick's Basin and requires a ski pass.

Teton Canyon is our most popular venue. With spectacular views of the Tetons and a dog friendly environment, the 13 kilometer round trip track is used by a wide variety of recreationists. It's groomed almost daily with a Pisten Bully snowcat as well as a 4-stroke Yamaha snowmobile. The trailhead is off ski hill road at the end of Teton Canyon Road.

Alta Track, also dog friendly, has 10 kilometers of looped track with great views of the Tetons. The trailhead is in Alta behind the Church and across the parking lot from the school. As a courtesy to the school, please park in the Church parking lot.

Teton Springs, located on the Teton Springs golf course, provides 7 kilometers of looped track in a beautiful setting with abundant wildlife. Due to wildlife concerns, dogs are not allowed. The trailhead is located south of the Teton Springs Lodge parking lot.

Many of you might be aware that our main tool for grooming Teton Canyon, a Pisten Bully Snowcat, has not been making its way up and down the Canyon. Unfortunately, as we were doing our pre-season preparation on our "PB" we ran into some mechanical problems with the engine. Without going into the intimate details, our Pisten Bully has a very special engine and because of its age parts are scarce or do not exist. We have been working with a very skilled mechanic and the only parts distributor to get parts to repair the "PB", but at this point to no avail. Although we have not given up hope yet, we are taking the following action to continue to provide quality grooming in Teton Canyon.

TVTAP purchased a new V-K 1000 Yamaha Snowmobile, the same we use at Teton Springs and Alta. The cost of the new snowmobile was $9,000 and although it is a big expense the Board of Directors and the Nordic Committee feel this is money well spent. The Four Stroke snowmobile assures that we have a reliable vehicle for grooming.

We hope you understand our current situation and support our efforts to give you the best skiing experience in Teton Canyon as well as in Alta and Teton Springs. If you would like to contribute to the cost of the New Snowmobile we are happy to accept and any and all donations.
