RED CREEK

Made my first maintenence foray into Red Creek on Sat. May 30. Actually only made into Corral from Spooky. There is a lot of timber down from all the spring wind. It's gonna take a few more days sawing to get her open. I'm not sure when I'll get back in. If anybody else goes to cut, list your results here so we'll know where to pick it up. I only got to the steep up just past the rocky creek crossing in Corral before the first big meadow and well below the divide. Don't forget Red is on the schedule for July 25 trail day!

Did my own private Idaho trail day in Red Creek today (June 14), continued the sawing and made it to the Kelley Bench. Stopped counting timber after 20. There are still a couple snow patches on the North Side Drop In. It is definitely wet but one nice day should make it rideable. One more day of sawing to get the bottom of Red, the bottom of Corral and the two track, anybody know what they look like?

Rode Red Creek loop on Tuesday night, riding great! Looks like the F.S. has been in touching things up. Thanks Scott!! We'll need everybody on July 25 to finish last year's re-route and delete two more creek crossings!

Rode Red Creek today, flowers are so high that it is hard to see the trail in places. FS trail crew is camped at the lower part til Friday, doing some other work and getting Red ready for trail day the 25th July.

Creek crossings still high/ walking for me (and the Chili-dog), but it's riding really well. Still one big tree down (needs a chainsaw) in the section from the swoopy singletrack to the first creek crossing.

Took a wonderful ride on Red Creek yesterday with a friend from San Francisco. He said it was the best Mountain Bike ride he has ever been on!! We also ran into a few locals that said the upper downhill section of Red Creek is the best in the Valley. I am sure some will rebutt that statement, but needless to say you should come out on Saturday for the trail day and help this great trail get even better!!

Thanks to the FS crew and the Saturday TVTAP trail day, the reroute is in and really improves the ride, getting rid of two of the more heinous creek crossings. Check out the engineering on the switchbacks on this new section! Also cut the last log across the trail, as of 7-25 the whole loop is timber free! Ride it up people! It is actually not as overgrown as some years.

  7. If you haven't already ridden this great trail this summer, you can enjoy it "downfall free" and riding better than I have ever seen it in 14 years! A nice 9 mile loop for after work is up "Spooky"- and down Corral Creek to the sheep driveway and then UP Red Creek to the junction with Corral Creek. The new switchbacks created on June 25 trail day by the volunteers (with great leadership from Scott and the USFS crew) ride like a dream! Up or down hill it is absoulutely rideable. The creek crossings that remain are all "managable" and many are rideable. Chris Erickson has done wonders on cutting out all those downfalls at the top. And the downhill on the Corral creek side is sheer bliss! Ride in either direction, but I prefer the long SMOOTH downhill of Corral Creek. If you had given up on this trail years ago, try it again now! It is a whole new experience!

Red Creek in decent shape on July 1. Still a little mud on the first couple creek crossings, but the upper downhill is perfect.

4 down trees through the whole loop. One on Spooky, then I can't remember exactly the rest.

Spooky and Corral are riding really well.
